The overall strategic plan required significant profitability improvements to provide a sustainable return to shareholders and funds for further investment. Workshops with the senior management team identified a number of projects over a two year period, with each team responsible for defining the problem, getting authorisation for change, implementing the change and maintaining the process. Project teams take on two projects for each session and most are dealt with within 6 - 8 weeks. Now into its second year, key projects included improving customer relationships to define planning, extend and clarify contracts, and increase utilisation levels, simplifying the sales order process and database making it much easier for the team to process transactions, automating sections of the business processes, and working with suppliers to improve input quality. Significant efficiencies have been gained, and the business is very successful.
