Sophie - Marketing

I joined Price Bailey’s Financial Planning team as a Financial Services Administrator fresh from college as an 18-year-old.

Not really knowing what I wanted to do for a career, I quickly realised that I was well suited to an office environment and I enjoyed supporting the wider team. During my time with PB Financial Planning, I completed my Apprenticeship in Business Administration. 5 years later I took a position in the Professional Support team where I soon discovered my love reception and customer service. Upon moving to our new Cambridge offices, I took on running our local events and running the hospitality programme.

I was approached by our marketing team to run our flagship events and become part of the marketing team. I jumped at the opportunity and haven’t looked back. I have recently been on an event management course and I will begin studying for my Chartered Institute of Marketing qualifications very soon. This move enabled me to further develop my customer service and more complex events planning skills and whilst still enjoying the social aspect of working on events.

In my first week of joining Price Bailey I was asked to join Price Bailey’s netball team who take part in friendly games against other companies in Cambridge. We have since played in boys vs girls games, mixed netball tournaments and we even entered the Cambridge District Netball League over the summer for 6 years. Getting together with my work friends and playing (some of us a little too competitively) against like-minded people is great fun and is great for getting to know new people in the company and also networking with other professionals.

My voluntary role as Charity Committee Co-ordinator on the charity committee is probably the most rewarding part of my role at Price Bailey. Working with other volunteers in the firm, we come together to think of ideas on how we can raise as much money as possible for our charities and how we can bring these ideas to life. We organise and run annual charity days in each of our offices, we’ve sent people on treks to Mount Kilimanjaro and Guatemala, held charity balls, arranged social and office events, long distance cycle challenges and even skydives, (which I was mad enough to do in 2015!) over the 5 years that I’ve been on the committee, we have raised over £200,000! I can’t wait to see how we can help our charity partnerships in the future.

In 2016, my husband had an accident which meant that he was off work, unable to walk, for 6 weeks over the dark winter months. With Price Bailey’s smart working initiative, I was able to take shorter lunch breaks and leave work early for this time. This enabled me to walk our dogs in the countryside surrounding our village, safely, on my own in daylight instead of in the dark. It’s the little things like this that make Price Bailey such a great company to work for.

People ask me why I have been in the same job for 10 years, but I haven’t; I have been at the same company for 10 years whilst working out which career path is right for me. The team at Price Bailey have guided me along the way and have helped me to realise what I excel at and fundamentally what work I enjoy. PB has also helped me to make friends for life, I work with some amazing people and these are the reason why I love coming to work. I wouldn’t change any of it!
