Management Accountant – Norwich

Role Overview

  • A Management Accountant is able to work independently and to manage reporting/filing deadlines with minimal to no supervision. The role will involve owning a mixed portfolio of more complex and moderately sized clients and the role holder will be expected to be the main point of contact for them on day to day queries etc.
  • The role will include a mix of both assignment management, preparation of management reports, preparation of VAT returns and book-keeping / processing. This will be performed both in the office and on site at client premises.
  • Where possible, the more transactional work can be delegated to junior team members and instead the role holder will be responsible for the overall delivery, review of financial information and concentrating on being the client relationship.
  • The role demands the ability to speak to communicate professionally and effectively with colleagues, clients and other contacts. The role holder will also have responsibility for supervising trainees/assistants

 

Principle Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate a reliably high level of competence in both processing the client’s books and records, and reviewing the processing of others.
  • Clear most routine and complex accounting queries directly with client and make correct adjustments.
  • Demonstrate thoroughness in carrying out analytical review of accounts and the ability to prepare a good Trial Balance position on all assignments.
  • Produce detailed and insightful management accounts for most assignments, check own work to ensure the accounts are accurate and to reduce required review time.
  • Display and apply in-depth knowledge in preparing VAT returns and assist colleagues with preparing returns.
  • Adhere to compliance procedures: i.e. follows instructions, makes clear notes and follows outlined procedures.
  • Proactively co-ordinate workload with assignment supervisor and maintain general organisation
  • Deal with a varied workload: proving flexible in skill range.
  • Ensure clear understanding of instructions and time budgets before assignment begins.
  • Keep team leader informed of assignment progress and/or problems. Especially anything likely to hinder progress.
  • Proactively use initiative to trouble shoot problems minimising assignment leader/team leader/manager time on resolving matters.
  • Make suggestions to team leader for improvements to clients’ systems and procedures or for increasing the efficiency/cost effectiveness of the assignment.
  • Appropriately confident and assertive in dealing with client queries and seeking information from clients or clients’ staff.
  • Support, guide and help others on work assignments giving clear instructions and aid development
  • Thoroughly brief trainees or an assistants on an assignment (where applicable) and monitor his/her progress.
  • Supervise trainee/assistant’s work to ensure completed accurately and thoroughly check his/her work.

 

Person Specification:

Work based competencies:

  • AAT Qualified
  • 4-5 year of relevant experience
  • Proficient in the use of both Xero and Sage L50
  • Driving license and means of transport
  • Confident working independently on site
  • Experience with dealing with clients, including communication and delivery.
  • Patient and positive in staff training
  • Good telephone manner, email communication skills and customer service levels.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office.
