Part Time Bookkeeper – Ely

Role Overview

  • Price Bailey, a Top 30 UK Accountancy Practice, is currently looking for a Part Time Bookkeeper to work from our Ely office.
  • The role demands the ability to speak to communicate professionally and effectively with colleagues, clients and other contacts; and in particular to answer routine questions from new trainees.  Will report directly to managers on most assignments.
  • A good Bookkeeper will carry out most day to day tasks autonomously without help or needed to be prompted and be proactive in dealing with their own workflow/deadlines and raising any issues with the team supervisor.

 

Principle Responsibilities:

  • Show reliably high level of competence in maintaining the books and records of client’s and producing accounts up to a trial balance position.
  • Begin to demonstrate commercial awareness and take responsibility for monitoring assignment budgets/recovery
  • Deal with the majority of queries and is happy discussing these with clients and suggesting sensible conclusions, whilst also showing initiative in clearing more complex queries.
  • Identify queries that are more complex for referral to the assignment supervisor and make sensible suggestions as to the action to be taken.
  • Preparing VAT returns and in assisting more junior team members prepare returns
  • Demonstrate ability to adhere to compliance procedures: i.e. follows instructions, makes clear notes and follows outlined procedures.
  • Ensure organisation and ability to work with minimal supervision: self-motivated.
  • Adequately deal with a varied workload: prove flexibility in skill range.
  • Start to scope assignments and identify opportunities for delegation
  • Demonstrate relevant software to new trainees
  • Help to train junior trainees with basic job instructions.
  • Keep team leader informed of assignment progress and/or problems.
  • Continue to seek help and support with queries beyond current knowledge or competence.
  • Continue to seek additional tasks to broaden knowledge and experience.
  • Show an interest in the factors important to clients’ businesses.
  • Make suggestions to team leader for improvements to clients’ systems and procedures.
  • Confident and professional in dealing with client queries and seeking information from clients or clients’ staff.
  • Can be relied upon to talk to team colleagues professionally and is an established office team player

 

Person Specification:

Work based competencies 

  • AAT part/fully qualified or qualified by experience
  • Good telephone manner, email communication skills and customer service levels.
  • Excellent IT skills, knowledge of cloud based accountancy software a significant advantage.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
