Price Bailey Advises on Merger of Christian Literature Publishers

Chartered accountants and business advisers, Price Bailey, recently advised on the merger of Inter-Varsity Press (IVP) with the Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge (SPCK) that will secure the future of IVP as the United Kingdom’s leading evangelical Christian publisher.

IVP is one of the UK’s most influential Christian publishers while SPCK has an international reputation and a history of over 300 years in publishing.

The project was led by head of Price Bailey Strategic Corporate Finance, Simon Blake, and called upon the firm’s broad expertise and experience in both corporate finance and the charity sector.

“Our experience in the charity sector is extensive and many Partners serve as Trustees for charities and not-for-profit enterprises. I was introduced to this project through my role as a Trustee of Stewardship, a major charity of which David Vardy of IVP is also chairman,” said Simon Blake. “We were able to combine this charity experience with our corporate finance expertise to bring the deal to a mutually beneficial conclusion,”

“One of the wisest decisions we made in negotiating the merger was the appointment of Price Bailey as our advisers,” said David Vardy, former chairman of Trustees, IVP. “Simon brought not only extensive experience and clarity in negotiating but also a depth of understanding of our situation which we found enormously beneficial. His guidance and knowledge enabled a very complex transaction to come to completion amazingly quickly.”

“There is no doubt that without Simon’s guidance and professional support and advice the merger between Inter-Varsity Publishing and SPCK could not have been achieved,” said Steve Apted, Interim General Manager of Inter-Varsity Press.  “Simon guided and facilitated the merger process from start to finish and gave the board and senior management exactly the right level of support at every stage.”
