Enabling you to deal with a deceased's estate

We are authorised to obtain a grant of probate to enable you to deal with a deceased’s estate.  If the deceased left no will, we can obtain a grant of ‘Letters of Administration’ instead. Both these court sealed documents confirm that the identified persons are responsible and entitled to deal with the deceased’s assets and liabilities i.e. they can request that third parties release money to them and can make payments from the estate.

Prior to obtaining a grant, a tax return has to be made to HMRC.  Price Bailey employs solicitors, accountants and tax advisers.  As such, we are perfectly placed to deal with HMRC, we can calculate the estate’s Inheritance Tax liability (if any), ensuring that all available reliefs such as Business Property Relief and Agricultural Relief are claimed.  We can also advise whether any variations of the will are possible to lawfully reduce the amount of tax payable to HMRC.  In one recent case, we achieved tax savings on a deceased’s estate in excess of £400,000.

Once the grant has been obtained, we can assist you with the administration of estates i.e. collecting the estate assets, paying the liabilities and distributing to the beneficiaries.  We can also arrange for statutory notices to be published to protect executors against personal liability in respect of unknown liabilities.

Our multi-disciplinary team have particular experience in high value, complex estates.  We also regularly act for non-UK domiciled individuals.
