“After more than 30 years of working with a wide range of businesses and people, I feel that I can make the greatest difference to clients who allow me to get involved, on a regular basis, in all of the financial aspects of their business, rather than just acting as the ‘year-end’ accountant.”
Garry is a Partner based in Peterborough, working across a broad base of corporate and individual clients. He provides accountancy and tax advice to small and medium-sized businesses and high-net-worth individuals.
Having become a partner at an established firm of chartered accountants and business advisers in the mid-1990s, Garry initially focused on start-ups and personal tax clients. Many of those businesses have since grown into successful, established companies, and he now works closely with clients and the tax team on exit and succession strategies, including inheritance tax planning.
Q&A
What’s the best part of the work you do?
The most rewarding part of my role is helping business clients shape their plans and strategy, then working alongside them to put that strategy into action and achieve their goals.
What’s the biggest financial mistake small and medium sized businesses make?
Failing to have a clear business plan or strategy. This can be as simple as maintaining the current level of profitability and turnover while continuing to deliver a high standard of service to key, profitable clients.
Most rewarding client moment?
The most rewarding moments come from supporting clients throughout the life of their business and helping them achieve their ultimate goal, whether that is a sale, family succession or a planned closure with the desired financial outcome.
What do you do outside of work?
Outside work, I enjoy travelling, particularly in and around France, gardening, spending time with my family and watching sport whenever I can.
