Founded in the UK in 2016, The Humane League UK is a registered charity dedicated to ending the abuse of animals raised for food by campaigning for institutional and legislative change, and empowering individuals to make compassionate choices.

The Humane League UK partnered with Price Bailey in 2025. Their in-house finance team wanted to strengthen their understanding of bookkeeping and management accounts, while the leadership team hoped to free up time to focus on the charity’s wider mission. They wanted a partner who could provide guidance and support as they grew.

Our approach

We designed a bespoke outsourcing arrangement that provided the right balance of review, support and training. Our services were split into three key areas:

Bookkeeping review: The in-house team handles day-to-day bookkeeping, while we review their work monthly to ensure bank reconciliations, postings and data accuracy are all correct.
Management accounts support: We assist with month-end close processes including prepayments, accruals and payroll journals. As part of this, we explain the reasoning behind adjustments and walk the in-house team through the working papers to deepen their understanding.
Year-end compliance and audit support: We also prepare the charity’s annual accounts and assist with the external audit, which is completed by an independent auditor.

The impact

Since working with us, the in-house finance lead has been able to build a better understanding of financial reporting and why certain adjustments are made. The team now has a consistent source of support for finance-related questions, which also helps leadership focus more on the charity’s broader goals.
