On 11th July, local businesses from Bishop’s Stortford entered teams into the first Charity Mixed Netball Tournament organised by Price Bailey Chartered Accountants.
The tournament saw twelve teams from AJ Chambers, Care by Us, Nightingale Cleaning, Nockolds, Tees, The Rig Gym and Price Bailey come together to compete at St Mary’s Catholic School. The netball games, raffle and cake sale, raised a combined sum of £1,063 for Price Bailey’s charity partner, Action Medical Research.
During a well fought group stage, the teams played some excellent netball. The winners of the group stages, Nockolds and Tees, went on to play in the final where Nockolds won and lifted the 1st place trophy.
The money raised will go towards Action Medical Research’s ‘Saving Tiny Lives’ campaign which is focussed on funding research and developing treatments into premature birth and other pregnancy complications. According to Action Medical Research, around 60,000 babies are born prematurely in the UK, and sadly 1,000 tragically die making it the most significant cause of death in babies; for those that do survive, it’s also the leading cause of disability.
Sophie Parker, Corporate Social Responsibility Co-Ordinator at Price Bailey, said: “I’m delighted at the success of the evening which has also hopefully sparked some local interest in the game just ahead of the Netball World Cup. We are grateful to all of the local businesses who competed in the tournament and donated generously to Action’s ‘Saving Tiny Lives’ campaign. So far we have raised over £75,000 for Action which helps to fund research that has improved and saved the lives of premature babies, it’s a very worthy cause.”
